Healthcare Startups Plan on Making a Killing Off Obamacare

Obamacare may get mixed reviews from the general public, but it's a cash cow for start-ups. And investors expect the money pile to get bigger. More money poured into health-care start-ups than ever before this last January, with $390 million invested across 25 deals, according to Rock Health, a digital health start-up accelerator. That helped make the first quarter of this year the best quarter ever for digital health, with $700 million pouring into the sector, Rock Health recently reported.

Survey Finds Doctors Moving Out Of Western New York

More doctors are retiring or moving out of Western New York than are setting up new practices here, according to a recent survey by a state hospital group. The reason why comes down to economics. The cost of a medical degree requires student loans that many doctors can’t afford to pay back, and the pay is considerably lower for physicians in smaller regions like Western New York or smaller, compared to big cities, such as New York or Los Angeles.

Through its hundreds of volunteers, the Good Samaritan Free Clinic provides free medical, dental, and pharmaceutical care to the working uninsured in Lee County. That's something the clinic's executive director says will likely continue even with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

7.1 million Americans signed up for health insurance through exchanges established as part of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. The White House celebrated this achievement with great fanfare, especially after the disastrous launch of the Obamacare exchanges left many doubting that the goal of 7 million enrollees would be reached by March 31.
